3 Signs You Need a Tree Removal

November 24, 2015

It might not seem like it at first, but tree removal Miami is actually an essential component in maintaining the city’s safety and beauty. A dangerous tree poses a risk not only to your home, but also to your family and even your neighbors. Trees also have an effect on the value of your property. Keeping a close eye on your trees and identifying a potentially problematic tree before it becomes a hazard is key.

We know, that’s easier said than done. You’re able to naturally tell when your child or pet is sick, but how do you know if your tree’s health is in trouble? Here are 3 signs you need a tree removal.

1. Trees can suffer from construction stress.

You probably wouldn’t expect that the work you did on your driveway could negatively impact your trees. Danger signs include a reduced amount or lack of foliage, damaged bark, and a premature autumn color. Beware of carpenter ants and mushrooms at the base of the tree; these signify rot and decay.

2. It’s okay for a tree to lean, but not too much.

Inspect a leaning tree for exposed roots around the base. Also look for cracked or heaving soil–this is especially an issue if you find it on the opposite side of the tree’s lean. These are all signs that point to a problem.

3. Multiple trunks could mean instability.

If a tree has more than one trunk or has splits in one trunk, check it out further. Cracks that reach deep down into the trunk are red flags. V- or U-shaped multiple trunks could also mean bad news for mature trees, as that means the wood that connects the trunks is weakening and could lead to a split. This is particularly dangerous during storms, making this a leading cause of the tree removal Miami experiences.

It’s a good idea to take a look around your yard every so often, especially after storms and changes in season. Know that tree removal Miami is guided by different rules in different areas, so be sure to contact us and make sure the tree is removed both safely and legally.

How to Create a Thanksgiving Tree

November 18, 2015

Thanksgiving Tree

No matter what the weather is like, fall is a beautiful season. It means the holidays are here, and it’s a wonderful time to celebrate with family and friends. With Thanksgiving coming up, we’re especially thinking about everything we’re grateful for. And what better way to show love, happiness, and gratitude than with a Thanksgiving tree?

We’re not talking about getting your hands dirty and becoming one with Mother Nature. We mean counting your blessings by creating your own Thanksgiving tree using a large jar, a few sticks, and a little creativity. It’s a kid-friendly DIY way to display everything you’re thankful for this season.

Here’s how to create your family’s own Thanksgiving tree.

First, gather:

A gallon-size glass jar to use as the base

A handful of branches

Chalkboard tags and chalk

Enough assorted nuts to fill the jar

Burlap or string

Scissors

Then, distribute the chalkboard tags among your family members and give everyone a piece of chalk. Each person should write something they are thankful for on each of the tags. Thread the string through the tags.

For a fun twist, you can give the chalkboard tags out at your Thanksgiving gathering, and have each of the guests come up with their own. This will make for a truly special Thanksgiving tree.

Fill the jar with the mixed nuts, and then position the branches in the jar so they are scattered but upright. Tie the tags on different levels of different branches, much like you’d put ornaments on a Christmas tree.

Your Thanksgiving tree is ready! It makes a great decoration at the entrance of your home, and can even be a beautiful centerpiece at your dinner table. Happy Thanksgiving!

A beautiful landscape is an important part of every home. Decorating your yard with picturesque plants and flowers is a lovely way to liven up the look of your abode. It’s also great to contribute to your neighborhood’s Miami landscaping beauty. But what happens when your precious perennials die? Or when you find yourself tending to them more than you have time for?

Don’t let your time and money be wasted. Choosing plants that are easy to keep alive and flourish is key when curating beautiful Miami landscaping. These plants require little upkeep and will thrive through the seasons without much care.

Follow our guide to putting the right plants in your landscape. These are the 3 best low maintenance plants for Miami landscaping.

1.  Scarlet Milkweed

This evergreen perennial grows beautiful clusters of scarlet and orange flowers from springtime into the fall. You’ll notice Scarlet Milkweed will attract butterflies through these seasons as well. This plant can be positioned in full sun to partial shade and grows to be between 36-48 inches tall. Another perk of this plant is that it can tolerate wet soil and occasional flooding, which is important for Miami landscaping.

2.  Rain Lilies

Rain Lilies can be positioned in full sunlight. They’re great for Miami landscaping because they sprout yellow, pink, red or white flowers during the spring and summer after it rains. This perennial goes dormant during the cooler seasons, and conveniently requires minimal water. They grow between 24-48 inches tall. Be sure to plant several of them–this plant flowers best when crowded.

3.  Florida Mountainmint

The name says it all. It’s an erect and loosely branched plant, and the leaves smell like spearmint. This shrub-like perennial is great for Miami landscaping, as it can be positioned in full sun or partial shade. You’ll see small lavender flowers bloom in dense clusters, and you can expect butterflies to frequent this plant.

The Benefits of Tree Trimming

Making your house a home takes time and effort. But we’re not only talking about picture frames and furniture. When it comes to your abode, it’s not just what’s on the inside that counts. A beautiful exterior is both inviting and lovely to look at. Your landscape is the first thing your guests see, and it’s what your neighbors look at every day. It’s what your family admires and enjoys when you’re out taking a walk.

Nurture your landscape and help it stay healthy and beautiful with regular tree trimming. There are plenty of benefits when it comes to tree trimming Miami! Here are a few examples.

Trimming your trees helps them live longer because pruning removes weak and dead limbs before they can harm the rest of the tree. Removing these branches, as well as eliminating unruly ones, can increase the amount of leaves, flowers, and fruit your tree grows

By trimming unwanted branches, you also protect your home. South Florida gets hit with many storms all throughout the year, and a strong gust of wind is all it takes to send a branch flying into a window or car. Unruly tree branches are especially dangerous if they grow into power lines. Making sure the tree is trimmed and healthy ensures your home will stay safe no matter the weather.

This is also important for keeping your loved ones and neighbors safe from any accidents. Tree trimming takes care of dangerous low-hanging branches that could be detrimental to your family or passersby.

We’re experts at tree trimming Miami, so call us for help keeping your landscape beautiful and your family safe!

Halloween Tree Decor – 3 Ways to Dress up Your Trees this Halloween

October 27, 2015

‘Tis the season to be spooky! Halloween is around the corner, so get your yard ready for those eager trick-or-treaters. There are lots of ways to deck out your lawn, but what about your trees? Give your home that hair-raising haunted house effect with just a few simple steps.

Here are three Halloween tree decor ideas from easiest to craftiest.

Eye See You

Give your tree trunks an eerie makeover with glow-in-the-dark eyes. Cut pairs of circles out of glow-in-the-dark material (like foam) and color a black oval slit in each. You can also use regular construction paper with glow-in-the-dark paint or markers. Add multiple sets of eyes on one tree or give each trunk in your yard a pair of peepers.

Night Light

This idea gets second place because even though Halloween tree decor lights are a no-brainer, hanging them gets a bad rap for being a hassle. Get in the spirit by hanging orange or purple (extra points for both!) lights on your trees. As a more economic option, grab a few bags of cotton spider webs and drape them on your branches for a creepy-crawly look.

Hang with Friends

Animate your trees with a few themed decorations. Use a bat stencil to cut a figure out of black poster board. Use glow-in-the-dark paint to add eyes, then punch a hole in the bottom of the bat. Hang it upside down for a cute decoration. You can also do this with DIY ghosts. Cover a Styrofoam ball with enough cheesecloth that a third of the material covers the ball and two-thirds (or longer) is hanging down. Add a couple of black eyes and hang your new pal from a branch.

What You Need to Know Before Hiring an Arborist

October 20, 2015

Arborist Miami

Taking proper care of the trees on your property is important. Sometimes it will be obvious that a tree needs to be tended to, but other times you might not notice that maintenance is necessary. Don’t make it a guessing game; hire an arborist!

Hiring an arborist ensures that your trees are well taken care of and will remain beautiful and healthy. This not only creates a lovely landscape for your home, but also increases the value of your property. You’ll also eliminate risks that weak, unhealthy trees pose to your family and your neighborhood. Here’s what you need to know before hiring an arborist in Miami.

Do your research:

  • Have a few arborists check out your property and get each one to write a bid for the job.
  • Focus on finding experienced professionals, especially an ISA Certified Arborist.
  •  Find out if the candidates are members of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or the Tree Care Industry Association TCIA—which would be a plus.
  • Ask about the candidate’s personal and property liability insurance, as well as workman’s comp. Double check with the insurance company to ensure the policy is current.
  • Make sure to check references.

Avoid arborists who:

  • Advertise about or routinely practice tree topping or demossing.
  •  Propose removing a living tree. This is rarely necessary.
  • Charge a very low price. This is often a red flag, as those who charge more do so because they have more advanced equipment and insurance costs. When it comes to hiring an arborist, you typically get what you pay for!

How to Repair a Damaged Tree with Tree Trimming

October 13, 2015

tree trimming tree trimming miami

Living in South Florida, we’ve seen the damage that a storm can do to our landscapes. The pummeling rain, crackling lightning and destructive winds can nearly destroy our trees. This doesn’t only happen during hurricane season, either. But if you walk outside after the next storm to find your lush greenery has been made into a mess, don’t fret. Tree trimming can help bring your trees back to life!

Here’s what to do if a storm damages your tree.

Step one: assess the situation. Be sure to approach trees with caution, and steer clear of rogue powerlines and seemingly bottomless puddles.

Your tree is in promising shape if:
● The tree still looks healthy and without much structural damage
● Major limbs are still in tact
● The leader (the main branch growing upward) has not been lost
● At least half the tree’s branches and leaves survived
● Wounds are only a few inches in size
● Remaining branches are located in spots that can grow to help the tree fill out evenly again

In this case, the damage is not too severe and tree trimming can save the tree. If only some of the above statements apply, it is wise to perform a milder, more careful tree trimming and let the tree recover for a while before assessing again.

Unfortunately, not all trees can be saved, especially if the damage is irreversible. Sure signs of this include a split trunk and if more than 50% of the tree’s crown is gone. Tree trimming isn’t worth it—and won’t be effective—in this scenario.

Step two: call us! Tree trimming Miami can reverse the damage that storms do on our lawns and restore their beauty. If you think your tree can survive the storm, call us immediately (the sooner the better) and we’ll give it the first aid it needs to thrive again!

The Most Effective Way to Perform Land Clearing

October 6, 2015

land clearing miami, land clearing

We’re all about productivity and efficiency, and that’s what drives our methods. That’s why we use our preferred system of land clearing in Miami. You may be asking, what is land clearing? As put by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, land clearing is the practice of removing trees, stumps and other vegetation from wooded areas. This is performed when there is going to be a change in the use of the land. How do we do it? We use forestry mulchers that mulch brush trees up to eight feet in diameter. The machines we use also hammer away at stumps. The best part? We don’t leave you with a pile of debris that needs to be sorted and burned. Instead, the mulch is easily distributed on your soil! Not only is this the most efficient and cost effective way to conduct land clearing in Miami, but there are also environmental advantages. First off, the mulch acts as an erosion barrier and it enriches the soil. You’ll also notice that the mulch helps grass start to grow immediately. And, without the pile of debris, you can start using your land right away. If you are interested in land clearing but want to keep some of the trees on your property, you can! We can perform what is called selective clearing, a type of land clearing that selectively removes troubled trees and does not disturb wanted specimen. Tree Removal Pinecrest: How to Remove a Tree in Pinecrest

September 22, 2015

tree removal pinecrestIf you live in Pinecrest, odds are you frequently admire the lush trees as you pass them by. These gorgeous trees don’t only provide your neighborhood with much-needed shade, but they also make for a beautifully scenic area. You would definitely miss them if they were suddenly gone, right?

Right. That’s why the Village of Pinecrest has specific rules for tree removal. There are some situations, though, where trees can become detrimental. They can be hazardous to our safety, and even make building additions or new homes challenging. If you are considering tree removal or relocation, read up on the regulations to ensure you are within the tree removal Pinecrest legal limits.

The most important thing to know is that you need a permit to cut down a tree. You’ll need to fill out an application and also submit two copies of a tree and/or property survey providing essential information including the tree size, its exact location, and more.

If your application is approved, you’ll be required to pay a fee as well as replace some of the lost tree area with new trees. It’s worth noting that while all tree removal requires a permit, dead trees and specific species are exempt from a fee. You can access the application and learn more about these exempt species here.

If you just want to give your tree a haircut, the requirements are more lax. Tree trimming does not require a permit, but there are still mandates to adhere to. Always use proper trimming techniques to keep trees healthy and to avoid fines.

When in doubt, call on us to make sure your trees stay beautiful and healthy, and you stay fine-free!
